Last Extra Blog Post

So for this extra blog post I didn't know what to do but I'll just talk about my topic & what I learned.. & what not. Choosing a topic was hard for me. I didn't know & still don't know what I want to do as a career. I think it's kinda nerve racking to choose a career, well for me at least because it's a thing that you're dedicating about 4-7 years of extra schooling.. So psychology became my topic. At the beginning I was super stocked about it. Then after a month or two I was a bit bored. I realized I didn't want to listen to people's problems for the rest of my life. As of now I still don't k ow what I want to do other than go to college & have fun.. Idk. Thank Ipoly for the lessons & for the staff which was awesome byeeeeeeeeeeee

Blog 23: Final Lesson

(1) Positive Statement
What are you most proud of in your block presentation and/or your senior project? Why?
I am proud that I was able to explain my answers with depth. I addressed all the key points that were essential to my question and also that I made time in my content. I was nervous which caused me to speak really fast but thankfully, I hit 30 minutes.

(2) Questions to Consider

a. What assessment would you give yourself on your block presentation (self-assessment)?
P

b. What assessment would you give yourself on your overall senior project (self-assessment)?

P  +

(3) What worked for you in your senior project?
The things that worked for me in my senior project was that all the answers I came up with for my EQ had a lot of research I could look into. Having a lot of research helped me have a strong base to my answers and enough information to explain the points I was trying to get at.
(4) (What didn't work) If you had a time machine, what would you have done differently to improve your senior project if you could go back in time?
I would go back and re-read a couple of slides that did not make sense. Basically just proofread more carefully because that caused me confusion when I tried to refer to my slides.
(5) Finding Value
The senior project has been helpful to get my feet in the water into a career that I was interested in. In the beginning of my senior project, I was engaged to learn more about my topic. After about a month I began to think if I really wanted to pursue a career in the psychology field because it was beginning to get less interesting for me I do not know if it is because we are being graded to do so many components or maybe because this career just isn't the way for me. I did learn that psychology is something we deal with everyday. If we encounter a problem and deal with it in a emotional, psychical or any other way, it is psychology.

I'M GRADUATING!

Blog 22: Mentorship

Interpretive
What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
The most important thing I learned from this experience was getting to discover if this would be the right career choice for me. Choosing a career is something very important because you must dedicate four or more years of your life to studying for that specific thing. Spending over 50 hours in two different mentorships that involved psychology made me realize that psychology might not possibly be the right career field for me.
  Applied
How has what you’ve done helped you to answer your EQ?  Please explain.

At Tri City I had the chance to spend time with main different teens who suffered from mental illness. With that type of atmosphere I observed the teens attitudes towards different things along the day or hour that they were at the wellness center. It helped me see how the teens and parents expressed themselves to each other. In my essential question I address the teen, which is the patient and the parents who would be the backbone of the treatment. Both my mentors helped me by pointing out specific things as in a treatment that is bound to fail because the parents are not collaborating with the psychologist.

BLog 21: Exit Interview

(1) What is your essential question, and what are your answers?  What is your best answer and why?My essential qyestion is, What is the best way for a psycholigst and parents to collaborate about the treatment of a teenage patient? My first answer is, the best way for a psychologist and parents to collaborate about the treatment of a teenage patient is to first of all be understanding. The teen is facing something something in their lives that is affecting them in various ways. It is imporant to evoke the teens prespective on the situation so that they have a say in their treatment. My second answer is The best way for a psychologist and parents to collaborate about the treatmet of a teenage patient is for the parents to be educated about how the teenage brain works. It is obvious that a teenage brain is not fully developed. The brain appear to undergo a growth spurt of its own, and this changing brain may in part explain why teengers turn into a walking army of emotional loose cannons. My third answer is A psychologist should be able to offer collaborative, team-based programs for adolescents from initial evaluation to follow-up treatment. They should represent a broad range of specialties and bring an comprehensive approach to treatment planning and continuing care. My best answer is a combination of all my answers but mainly the first and second one. The best way for a pyscholigst and parents to come about the treatment of a teenage patient is to evoke the teens prespective on the situation so that they have a say in their treatment. The psychologist should be able to offer a team-based treatment therefore the parents could be involved and they too can understand what is going on.

(2) What process did you take to arrive at this answer?
The process that it took me to arrive at this answer was through various ways. After having answers one, two, and three, I thought that was the best and strongest answer was my first one. When I met with my second mentor Jazzmine, she explained how all three answers combined would suit my best answer. With all m answers combines I adress all threee parites that are mentioned in my quuestion. She also told me to refer back to my research articles that had to do with the way treatments affected the paitent.
(3) What problems did you face?  How did you resolve them?
The problemsI faced was that in my answers I mainly addressed to a specific party. The question is based of three so that would make my answers not fully answered. Also that are not many articles on treatments that involve parents which lead me to ask my mentor from her past experineces.

(4) What are the two most significant sources you used to answer your essential question and why?
Behnke, Stephen H., and Elizabeth Warner. "Confidentiality in the Treatment of Adolescents." Http://www.apa.org. American Psychological Association, Mar. 2002. Web. 23 Apr. 2015. This helped because it was an interview two psychologist had and they hit key point as of why teenagers needed to be evoked in their treatment. It also gave me an insite of what different types of reactions from teens a psychologist can face. Psychology The Easy Way by Melucci. This book is like a guide about psychology. It informed me about treatments, it gave me smal lessons and it would test me at the end. It provided me with more resources at the end of each section. It gave me words and definitions that are used in the every day world in psychology. This help me have more knowlegde when it came to putting an answer together.

Independent Component 2

Content:

LITERAL
(a) Include this statement: “I, Susana Pinon, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 37 & 30 mins hours of work.”
(b) WIth my Independent Component 2, I got help from psychologist Jasmine Guerrero. I also used Chan, Amanda L. "Going To Therapy For The First Time? Here's What To Expect." The Huffington Post. The Huffington Post.com, n.d. Web. 26 Apr. 2015. This is an article that was given to me by my mentor.
(c) My hours are updated.
(d) For my second component, aside from doing a couple more hours at Tri City, I started to go to a office from a psychologist, Jasmine Guerrero. There I had the chance to sit in with her during sessions with her patients. I got to learn how to do an evaluation for a new patient. In some sessions I was allowed to take notes but in most cases I was not because the patients did not feel comfortable with me doing so. I spent a good amount of time doing research on article my mentor would give me when I was not allowed to sit in the sessions with her. I got the chance to experience my mentor introduce and explain treatments to her patients. I was taught how to do evaluation phone calls and my mentor trusted me to do some without supervision since I learned how to do it well. I had a chance to give out my opinion in some sessions where the patients asked for my input as well.

Defend your work and explain the component's significance and how it demonstrates 30 hours of work.   Provide evidence (photos, transcript, art work, videos, etc) of the 30 hours of work.
Here is a link to the evaluation sheet I learned to fill in while attending first time patients. Since it is private sessions, I was not allowed to take pictures of patients in their sessions. You can contact my mentor at (909) 576-5088 to verify anything else.

How did the component help you answer your EQ? Please include specific examples to illustrate how it helped.

This component helped me answer my EQ because I had the chance to actually sit in with a patient. My EQ asks; What is the best way for a psychologist and parents to collaborate about the treatment of a teenage patient? I did not get much of a chance to see the parents involved in the treatments but I did get to work with teens and how the way their treatments worked. I observed my mentor explain a treatment thoroughly and I noticed how she detailed everything in specific matters. When there was parents I noticed how my mentor talked to all of them the same way therefore the teen doesn't feel like they are being talked to in a lower manner.

March Additional Blog

http://t.usnews.com/Z7eq3d

Lately I have been coming across issues that have to do with most of people's everyday lives and psychology.

This article goes into depth on how smart phones (ironically I'm using one to do this post) can lower intelligence.
