August Additional Blog

This is a really bleary picture my poster. I put a couch with a brain on top because my senior topic has to do with psychology and when you go to a psychologist you sit in a couch. A brain because psychologist study how the brain works and why it works that way.

You can see the real thing in Ortega's room 😄

BLog 4: Interview Preparation

1. Who do you plan to interview? Why?

I plan to interview either Gamaliel Polanco or one of his employees from where I do my mentroship. I want to interview one of them because they all have some kind of psychology/counseling background and I think it would come in my favor for my senior topic.

2. What additional questions do you plan to ask?

  • Picking a career to study sometimes seems to be overwhelming. How did you know this was the right career for you?
  • Do you feel like your career should be something that makes you happy? Or something you are in just for what they pay?
  • What was on of the most challenging things you had to face in order to get this far?

Blog 2: Summer Mentorship Component

1. Mentorship Log:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1riEOQ_SSLTliFLyZhifGuGrmCOAITXl7G06njAe3dSQ/edit?usp=sharing

2.What is the contact name & number you volunteered?
Gamaliel Polanco, (909) 242-7610

3. What a questions were raised because of the 10 hours of experience? List them.
- Is this a job I'd like to stay in for the rest of my life?
-Does working with young adults get frustrating?
-Can it be overwhelming listening to other peoples probelms every day?
-If soething is told to you in a confidential manner but it is illegal/crime, what do you do?

4. What is the most important thing you gained from this experience? Why?
The most important thing I gained from this experience is that being patient is a big key of this job. Having daily hour sessions with a group of young adults can be difficult. Especially because they go on anf on about something simple and never like admit to being wrong. I would observe the group leader bbeing patient and listening to everything they say, also making eye contact so the teen knows they are being heard, because that is the reason they are there, to be heard.

5. What is your senior topic going to be? How did what you did help you choose your topic? Please Explain.
My senior topic is going to be Teen Counseling in a Mental Wellness Center, which falls into psychology. I enjoyed my time at the mental wellness center which helped me discover that I would like to know more about how the teenage brain works and how it develops.
