Independent Component 2

Content:

LITERAL
(a) Include this statement: “I, Susana Pinon, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 37 & 30 mins hours of work.”
(b) WIth my Independent Component 2, I got help from psychologist Jasmine Guerrero. I also used Chan, Amanda L. "Going To Therapy For The First Time? Here's What To Expect." The Huffington Post. The Huffington Post.com, n.d. Web. 26 Apr. 2015. This is an article that was given to me by my mentor.
(c) My hours are updated.
(d) For my second component, aside from doing a couple more hours at Tri City, I started to go to a office from a psychologist, Jasmine Guerrero. There I had the chance to sit in with her during sessions with her patients. I got to learn how to do an evaluation for a new patient. In some sessions I was allowed to take notes but in most cases I was not because the patients did not feel comfortable with me doing so. I spent a good amount of time doing research on article my mentor would give me when I was not allowed to sit in the sessions with her. I got the chance to experience my mentor introduce and explain treatments to her patients. I was taught how to do evaluation phone calls and my mentor trusted me to do some without supervision since I learned how to do it well. I had a chance to give out my opinion in some sessions where the patients asked for my input as well.

Defend your work and explain the component's significance and how it demonstrates 30 hours of work.   Provide evidence (photos, transcript, art work, videos, etc) of the 30 hours of work.
Here is a link to the evaluation sheet I learned to fill in while attending first time patients. Since it is private sessions, I was not allowed to take pictures of patients in their sessions. You can contact my mentor at (909) 576-5088 to verify anything else.

How did the component help you answer your EQ? Please include specific examples to illustrate how it helped.

This component helped me answer my EQ because I had the chance to actually sit in with a patient. My EQ asks; What is the best way for a psychologist and parents to collaborate about the treatment of a teenage patient? I did not get much of a chance to see the parents involved in the treatments but I did get to work with teens and how the way their treatments worked. I observed my mentor explain a treatment thoroughly and I noticed how she detailed everything in specific matters. When there was parents I noticed how my mentor talked to all of them the same way therefore the teen doesn't feel like they are being talked to in a lower manner.

Blog 14: Independent Component 1

a.) I, Susie Pinon, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 33 hours of work.

b.) The scources that helped me where:
NREPP Evidence- Based Therapy (website)
Tic-City Mental Wellness Center
Mentor, Michelle Mejia

c.) Updated

d.) For my independent component, other than doing additonal hours with my mentor and her colleagues, I had the chance to help her run a class with adults who suffered with schizophrenia. Even though I am basing more on teenagers, I got to experience people who have had to live with this mental illness longer.

Interpretive

I am not allowed to take pictures of the classes going on due to confidencial issues with the teens/adults at the center but the top picture is the room where most teens meet up. We usually have tables set up so they can do homework or have a chat with one of the psychologist/counselers. We also have a ping pong table so that we can play after a stressful day or session. The bottom picture is of the outside the the front office of the wellness center, More adults go into this office.

Applied

Spending more time around my mentor and mentorship helped me have more of a connection with psyhology. It gave me more insite on teenagers, even though I am a teenager I got to experince teens that are more troubled and the ways they face them. I had more chances to ask my mentor why she treats certain patients they way she does and how she goes about her day due to the fact that she has to help people deal with problems that are really complex.

Blog 15: Independent Component 2 Approval

1. What I am planning to do is to go to a differnt clinic that my mentor is going to recommend me too. They specialize more on one to one therapy sessions that I can sit in and observe. I will also contiune doing hours with my mentor and helping her run classes at the mental wellness center.

2. My goal is to go there at least once a week for about 3 hours and observe the other psychologist. I will try to take pictures and feedback from the psychologist running the therapy session.

3. This will help me with my component because I will be observing teens in a session with a person who is an expert in the field. It will show me how encounter the teen without pushing them away. It will also help me see how the psychologist treat the paitent so that they will be open with her.

Blog 7: Independent Component 1 Approval

What is it?

My independent component will be 30 more hours at Tri-City. This will help me get used to the feel of being around people that are mentally ill or just need to get stuff out of their minds. I will also be around my mentor a lot more and other people that had credentials in psychology to get more knowledge in this field.
